.....I returned home from the Culinary Symposium last night and tripped across a box of books sitting on the front porch. The books were all of the Science Fiction / Fantasy variety, with a number of them books I had not yet read. I'm going 'Hmmmm, TBT must be cleaning out some boxes of books from storage in the garage and these are headed for The Goodwill.' I'm dead tired so I finish dragging my hind end and 'stuff' into the house and go to bed for the night.
.....Well, this morning, TBT and I trip across the same box of books on the doorstep as we leave the house and she asks me about the books as they weren't hers. Hmmm, this is a mystery. Seems that the Book Gods are pleased with us and are leaving presents on our doorstep. I'll read them, of course, as books are always special. But in a world where we are struggling to reduce our household inventory, any new addition is always viewed with trepidation. But, you know, they are BOOKS after all. :-)
.....Yesterday was all about the Culinary Symposium. I can tell you that I am wwwaaayyy out of shape. I didn't realize just how much so until the end of the day yesterday. I am not a foodie and none of the scheduled classes really appealed to me directly, so I wasn't sure what I wanted to do. Especially considering that I had paid for the weekend a while ago. Renart was preparing a feast for the day, so I asked him if he would mind if I helped him in the kitchen for the day. At least I would stay busy and out of trouble for the most part. He gave me the go ahead a few days ago and me Saturday was set.
.....I volunteered early on to manage the dish washing. It is my 'stupid peer trick' for sure as I have lots of experience in doing it. I stationed myself early and got myself organized. His Excellency Cedric and HIS page Dillon helped me periodically, but I stayed ahead of the food preparers all day long and was on my feet all day long. When things were really slow for me, or when the food preparers needed extra help, I washed my hands and got busy with food preparation. I even spent some time delivering food to the tables in the hall.
.....By the time we were cleaning up from the feast, my feet were HURTING and I was TIRED. I was just glad that the rest of the kitchen staff had enough energy to help me out with that last push of dishes. I would have had a tough time finishing them on my own. Everyone gathered together for some friendly banter after we were done and I was too tired to even banter back a whole lot. But it felt good to know that I had at least done my part, so I left happy. :-)
.....The site for the Symposium was beautiful. A girl scout camp near Tahuya next to Lake Bennetson. The cabins and camping spots were nice and the central meeting hall spacious. It would make an excellent location for an An Tir Administrative Retreat. We'll have to keep that in mind for future thoughts.
.....On Friday I had lots of plans to get things done today as Rhys was going to be at a playdate with the Children of Nim and TBT was going to be on a playdate with Countess Dagmaer. But I was still recovering from yesterday and was still tired. TBT and I did our usual morning Starbucks run before TBT ran off to the East Side of the Water. As soon as she left it was like someone flipped a light switch and I was out for a two hour nap. :-)
.....I DID manage to get my bathroom cleaned up though and I did some shopping for Mom. I even did a little bit of laundry so the day was not a total waste. Gwen came over with her nephew and they scoped out a desk and some bookcases that he would like to have and they do want them. TBT will be pleased to get rid of more of my 'STUFF' that doesn't fit her couture. :-)
.....Looking forward to the 'Toys-For-Tots' Tourney next weekend at Manchester State Park. I actually like that park. When the state was building the park itself our Boy Scout Troup spent a lot of hours there building trails and setting up camping spots. It'll be interesting to see how it looks now. I hope that the weather is in our favor. If the wind is blowing at all it will blow right off the water and into the old bomb warehouse and it will be COLD. :-) But it will be a nice event no matter and we'll build the fires up good in the big fireplaces located there.
.....And Baron Sir Richard is promising to attend. It is always a good event when he is in attendance. He is definitely one of my heros.
.....I need to not take so long between LJ entries. There is lots of stuff with which to catch up. :-)
.....Aaron / Arontius.
