I was going to hold out for as long as possible, but I may have to concede that it is time to buy new clothes. I get out of the shower this morning and dry off and throw on a pair of underwear, which promptly fall off. I pull them on again and they fall off again. So I go into the other room clutching my underwear and grab a pair of sweats to put on for the day. I put them on, let go, and both the sweats and the underwear promptly fall off. So, I'm at a hotel and don't have access to a belt or anything of the like, but in my suitcase I do have some string. I'm now sitting at the desk with my sweatpants and underwear being held up by string. How undignified! :-) I may have to run out later today and either buy smaller clothes or at least a belt.

I'm here for NORWESCON!!! Yeah! Last night as I hit the road at 10PM I was grumbling on why the heck I got a room a day earlier than I ever have before. Extra $$$$, a late night drive, late to bed, etc. But you know, I think that I like it. There were no crowds whatsoever, no waiting at the front desk, no crowds at the elevator. It was the easiest move in to NORWESCON I've ever had. I may have to keep doing this. :-)

I was re-reading the replies I received from my post last Sunday on the Laurel / Pelican controversy. They were wonderful comments and gave me a much better perspective on things. Thank you for giving me good thoughts. :-)

Hope that everyone has a good day.

Greetings!

Must be something in the air. I have a new sonnet to put out for my friend's amusement. I hope that you like it. It reads rather strange to me, for some reason like something out of a Carlos Castaneda work. :-) But I can see that considering the inspiration. I was dreaming of some time I spent in the California desert on a Vision Quest, but that is something for another entry.

Sonnet No. 7

Communing with the rocky bones of Earth,
Wise talk rewards with its eternity.
Embraced by eager silence of rebirth,
A blanket, shielded by maternity.

Caressing softly a voice can be heard.
A gentle laughter sparkling crystal bright.
It steals the mind with an enticing word,
A magic phrase weaves spells of mystic rite.

Voice becomes a choir in sweet overture,
It holds the senses in captivity.
A fleeting moment in thrall to endure,
To vanish towards a new nativity.

Strong nature teaches men as it may please.
But God will yet speak on the desert's breeze.

I'm still having trouble with flow and rhyme. Even though the meter is technically correct, I still use punctuation in places where I shouldn't and it disrupts the flow. But practice makes perfect, right? :-)

I feel extra inspired today for some reason. I went ahead and fixed the meter for the first sonnet I posted on Live Journal. It changed the outcome somewhat, so I'll have to work on reconciling the two different versions.

I stared at forests my life's labours built.
They were cold, dark and musty with decay.
No breath of life stirred in its moldy wilt.
No light from heaven shone to show the way.

I felt a source of warmth and turned to see,
A host of worthies riding two by two.
A Knight and Lady, Esquire in the Lee.
King Arthur's table, all did God renew.

I stood there rooted, did not dare to start,
When They came forth and beckoned with Their hands.
Bright rays of light burst forth and filled my heart,
As honour and her beauty filled the lands.

When the way is dark and all filled with fear.
Seek them out, They will guard and pull you near.

NORWESCON has been a lot of fun already. But crowded!!! I keep escaping to my room to get a break from them all. :-) But it has already made a change in my attitude to get away from work for a day. :-)

With Love, Arontius / Aaron.
