.....So, I'm pulling into the parking lot of the Safeway in Port Orchard. I turn down one of the rows looking for a parking stall. To the left I see this Acura starting to pull out and think that she is going to stop when she sees me. She doesn't see me and continues pulling out. I step on the gas to try and get out of her way. The back end of my van scrapes her bumper.
.....I pull into an empty parking stall and get out. In the meantime she has finished pulling out and is headed to the exit. I'm going 'What?!' But when I take a look at my bumper and rear quarter panel all I see is a few light scratches and so I let it go as not a big deal and go into the store.
.....When I get out this older lady stalks up to me and informs me that I ran into her car. I blink for a second or two and remind her that she backed into me as I was driving past. She says that I 'barreled into her path' and that she took down my license plate number and wants my insurance information.
.....At this point I shut up and start collecting my own information. I walk back over to her car and hand her my insurance certificate so that she can record it. She takes the card and puts it into her purse and then looks at me. I let her know that she has my prood of insurance and that I need it back. She blinks and then starts looking for paper and pen. During this time I'm looking at whatever damage has been done to her car. I see some light scraping of her back bumper. It would be difficult to notice except for some white paint streaks from my van.
.....She hands me my certificate back and starts putting stuff away and then looks at me. I look back at her and finally say, 'I need your insurance information and your address and phone number.' I don't think that she was expecting that for some reason. She looks at me for a moment and then starts looking for it.
.....When I finally have everything I call my insurance agent. When she heard the story she asked if this lady was crazy or something as it didn't sound like my fault at all. She said that she would inform the corporate office not to pay any claims made by this lady.
.....Hopefully this will just be a bad memory and I really will not hear anything more. But, you know, I'm starting to wonder if maybe there should be mandatory practical exams for those over 65 or 70 who wish to continue to drive. And, you know, it doesn't really matter if you've been driving for 50+ years, you don't own the road and are not entitled to special consideration in your driving habits. Just sayin'
.....Or maybe the Zombies were infesting Port Orchard yesterday and I was unlucky enough to be befouled by one. Hopefully I wasn't bitten when I had my back to her.
.....Grrrrrr, Aaron / Arontius.
