.....With the recent promotion at work, I would have thought that things would settle down. I've been doing the job for a while now so there should have been no surprises, right? Ha! Ha! I work for the Federal Government, where every day is a surprise wrapped up in a pretty bow. :-)

.....When the Congressman from back East successfully lobbied to keep Portsmouth Naval Shipyard off of the Navy's chopping block, the Navy was left with a problem. What do you do with a Shipyard that you had intended be closed at the earliest possible availability? Well, you put them gainfully to work at a facility all the way across the country. Yes, Portsmouth Naval Shipyard is now in charge of a facility in San Diego, three time zones away. How efficient is that? :-)

.....What that means for me specifically though is that my workload dynamics have changed significantly. The work I did in San Diego was my main 'bread-and-butter' work. So we're sort of mulling around exactly where we go next in my Code. An interesting quandary. We've been so 'reactionary' for so long now that it is difficult to shift gears into a real planning mode.

.....And top that off with all the recent offers to Japan. Got a new one thrown at me on Friday. It was a rather interesting one at that. Instead of going over there for a three year stretch, I could go as part of an Availability Team that would be there for six to nine month stretches starting in approximately three years from now. Hmmmm, this one has possibilities.

.....Of course, I still wouldn't go without TBT. But another roadblock to her going kind of shifted during a conversation with Giovanni on Saturday. The quarantine that TBT feared to which the cats would be subjected is a non-event. There really is no quarantine period (or a very limited one). Hmmm, more investigation is in order.

.....The shorter availabilities have some trade offs. The bonuses, the allowances, and all the wonderful benefits given to those staying for years will not be there. But you still get per diem and the opportunity to experience the culture of Japan.

.....Hmmmm, interesting. More to follow.
