Sunday Mental Excercises.
Mar. 30th, 2008 07:19 pm.....For an event that was billed to be low key and non-eventful, Crown Council turned out to be full of interesting conversations and mental food for later nibbling. Definitely something that will percolate in my brain for the next several days.
.....Today though was about getting ready for the work week and trying to get my rear up to speed after not sleeping very well for the past couple of nights. I'm kind of dragging tonight. But we managed to get a few things done today. We finally moved the very last load of TBT's things from Cedric and Brighid's house to home. I even managed to cram the van load of stuff into the garage. An amazing feat in and of itself. :-)
.....Had an interesting conversation with Their Excellencies concerning June Faire. June Faire IS going to happen this year, and it IS going to be at Port Gamble. But there is a lot of angst on our parts due to all the changes happening with the site. We handle change well in that being the Golden Retriever Barony, we're all over the work involved. But like that same Golden Retriever, moving that proverbial food dish causes a lot of confusion. :-)
.....One thing that we, as the leaders of the group, have to be careful not to do is to take over the decision making and event planning from those assigned to do June Faire for this year. The temptation is great. We could sweep in and make decisions, create plans, do things that make June Faire successful. However, the problem with that is those who need to LEARN how to do that don't. In the name of making things easier for them we take away something that will ultimately empower them and make them stronger autocrats for the future. It's not easy watching from the sidelines sometimes and simply be there to answer questions when asked. But sometimes it is what you have to do. Good lesson for me.
.....Business meeting this Tuesday. We should have a bid fleshed out for Last Chance Championship. The site is going to be different than normal. Not a bad price either. But there will be a few changes from the norm that will cause a little heartburn, namely the feast normally associated with Last Chance that may not happen. Or may be greatly modified or different. We'll see, but it will ultimately be up to the Autocrat Team, with approval and judicious words from Their Excellencies, that shape the final look and feel to the event.
.....This Tuesday will also wrap up KAS 2008. Holy Cow BatDragon! I am thinking that we might squeak by with losing little to no money (dare I say maybe even making a buck or two? I dare not just yet :-)). The hotel generated a final bill that was at least $1,000 off of the original price they quoted us. They took costs off based on a number of complaints that people had concerning the rooms that we used. To be perfectly honest they were complaints that didn't affect the overall event hardly at all, but the hotel was exceedingly kind to us. I am heartily impressed with them. I think though that it said it all when I talked to Mario and Nathan with the hotel and they were anxious for us to book another event with them as soon as possible. It would be hard to do a Yule Feast or something there without a kitchen, but I wonder if we could strike some sort of deal for an Ithra or something there? We'll have to play with ideas and see what we can do.
.....Next weekend I have NOTHING PLANNED! HUZZAH! I can not wait!!!! To sleep in for a couple of hours?! This week will be tortuous for sure. :-)
.....Now I'm ready for bed. Hope everyone has a good week. :-)
.....Aaron / Arontius.
