.....When I first joined the SCA I was a very quiet person. I always hung around in the back of the crowd and didn't say much. It took the movers and shakers of the time many years to even remember my name. I still chuckle when I think of the first time that Eric de Dragonslaire first remembered my name without prompting. It was a Last Chance at Longbranch and I was helping clean up the hall after the event was over. Eric wanted to say a thank you, but he couldn't remember my name. I think that he was slightly embarrassed as I'd been playing for several years, and he knew that, but he could not remember my name. Then, all of a sudden it came to him. He remembered it after that. :-)

.....That kind of experience was pretty normal at that point in time and it was what I expected from people. I don't say this as a whine, it was just, normal.

.....So, even today, when I am recognized and greeted by someone who only really knows me in passing, it always catches me by surprise. I'm never quite sure how to respond. But it is something that always makes me feel happy. So, at July Coronation, I'm walking across the field, and someone calls out my name and I turn and recognize Countess Miranda. And, as usual, I'm caught a little by surprise. We have dealt with each other pretty infrequently and I honestly didn't think that she would know me from the five thousand other people whom she knew in the SCA and An Tir, but here she was calling out a hello to me like we were old friends. And it made the day good for me. :-) Of course I was a dork and didn't know what really to say, and managed to make a fool of myself with mindless pleasantries. But Countess Miranda made a friend of me that day. :-)

.....I brought my camera with me to J.C., but didn't get nearly as many pictures as I wanted to get. I'll shuffle through what I have and see if I can post at least a few good ones.

.....Yeah, tommorrow is Friday!!! :-)
