Friday Morning.
Oct. 3rd, 2008 06:25 am.....I was interested in watching the debate last night, and actually turned it on as I did homework in bed. I turned the channel several times, and tuned out the speakers several times, as it did not strike me as a real debate at all. Every single answer, from both sides, seemed very canned to me. They might as well have dismissed the debate all together and prepared written statements to be passed out to the press. That was we could at least read what they had to say at our leisure and checked their facts and statements at random.
.....I was just not impressed. Secretly, I still kind of wish that Hillary had been up there. She would have made mincemeat out of Ms. Palin. But then, I suppose if Hillary had been Mr. Obama's V.P., the GOP would have selected someone else. It's an interesting race this year, that's for sure.
.....It's been a rather long week. It was another late day yesterday as we worked at getting Fiscal Year 2009 off and running. The Big Boss pulled us in for another status meeting at 3PM and kept us there past 4:00, and then dismissed us with 'go-dos' that had to be DONE before we left yesterday.
.....I'm sure that there is some sort of psychological title that fits this guy's attitude. He genuinely cares what happens in his department, as he is ALWAYS asking questions and doing things. But, Holy Cow, his style SUCKS! If he takes a liking to you, he takes it on as a personal task to 'mentor' you. But that is not a good thing. His style is the ultimate 'sink-or-swim'. He throws you out there with a thousand actions to go do and then calls you back into his office and goes over each item and picks it apart.
.....I've learned how to react to this over time. I know how to read his moods. When to keep my mouth shut and when to speak. With the Fiscal Year change though it has been interesting, in a morbid sort of way, to watch his dealings with others not quite so prepared. I have felt a great deal of sympathy as I've watched people writhe on the floor in some sort of Dante-an hell with him as the ultimate devil. Not pleasant to watch.
.....Thankfully, it is Friday. I guess that hamster racing is on the agenda for tomorrow, which sounds a LOT better than Dante. :-)
.....The Kingdom Seneschale put out a call for Seneschal(e)s and Exchequers to attend the An Tir Administrative Retreat in a couple of weeks. I would like to go, but Salem is not exactly next door. I doubt that TBT would want to go. I need to ask if Aelianora wants to go, but I doubt it as she is pretty busy herself.
.....I actually enjoyed the last Admin. Retreat in Glymm Mere. I learned much and enjoyed the company. I was a little leary at first as I remembered the class listing from the very FIRST Retreat, where one of the big draws was a class entitled, 'Forms! Forms! Forms!' Uhhh, yeah. Giovanni and I both decided that Last Chance, scheduled for the same weekend, would be a MUCH better learning experience. :-)
.....But I was pleasantly surprised with what we did. I also enjoyed the interaction with the Society Officers who attended that event as well. It was very interesting to get a Society level perspective on things. Which was why I was definitely interested in ensuring that I attended the last BoD meeting in Madrone.
.....I'll talk with TBT and a few others and make some sort of decision by Sunday. Hmmm, also gotta check and make sure that it doesn't fall on the same weekend as our Harvest Ball.
.....Also have to remember to send a note to the Kingdom Seneschale about the Baronial Confidence Polling. I sent a couple of e-mails and haven't heard anything in return. But I may not until arrangements are made. So I may be worrying un-necessarily.
.....Also mulling over whether I have what it takes, both personally, professionally, and politically, to take on the job of Kingdom Seneschal myself. I'm interested in applying. But it is a rather large commitment. I think that the experience gained would be extraordinary. You definitely meet A LOT of people from all over the Kingdom.
.....Will have to give this more thought. Not that I'm any sort of automatic shoe-in for the job. But it is definitely worth consideration and I think that I have a pretty good resume.
.....Only nine to ten more hours and I'm outta here for the weekend! :-)
.....Aaron / Arontius.
