The Job On Facebook?
Jun. 24th, 2009 06:25 am.....I don't know whether to be amused or afraid, but The Job has gone and made itself a Page on Facebook. The Shipyard Commander sent out a mass e-mail to all Puget workers and suggested that they all become FANS. Of course, being the dutiful Shipyard Employee (tm), I have gone and done so. :-)
.....It is interesting to note that the Shipyard not only tolerates Facebook, but encourages visitation of it. But that isn't surprising since most engineering and scholarly firms are suggesting 'Social Networking' sites as ways to network with the scientific and engineering community. The Shipyard has always had a problem recruiting, and continuing to keep, engineers in its workforce. Any way that they can protray themselves as relevant and 'hip', and plug into the resource community that they need, is probably a good thing.
.....Now, if they could unwind enough to allow us access to our personal e-mail while at work? That would go a long way towards their earning my respect and gratitude. :-) Although, considering the number of foolish people who still allow viruses and other destructive programming into the Shipyard network via e-mail / attachments sent to them, I can understand the trepidation.
.....I still find it all amusing though. :-)
