A Sonnet of Unusual Structure.
Dec. 20th, 2009 05:57 pm.....Playing with the usual structure of a sonnet, not so much in the foundation but with the 'draping' or 'covering'. In this case the rhyme scheme. This one is set to ABAB ACAC ADAD AA.
.....I cannot find any period sonnetry with this exact scheme, but some similar stylistic covering. It changes the flow to make it more rhythmic I think, but it would be difficult to continue this in say an epic poem, like 'The Faerie Queene'. Although that is probably not a worthy thought since a sonnet is a small contained universe and something along the lines of 'The Faerie Queene' would have to be a journey, but that is a different topic all together. :-)
.....Written in Catelin's memory...
She cast off from these shores in the deep night.
A choice born of desire and yearning stong.
To be free to chart a course true and right.
Unfettered by winds who might steer her wrong.
Her steed a great ship of unflagging might.
Winds whipping silken tresses of her mane.
Sprays of salt sting the eyes and blur the sight,
As sorrow fills the heart and tears fall as rain.
Her command rings forth as a ray of light.
The heavens pausing in their ebb and flow.
The soldiers parting on the roadway bright.
Allowing passage of this ark aglow.
She patrols the skies on this ship in flight.
The stars companions in this sacred rite.
.....As usual, I need to be more willing to bend grammer rules. But I'm too rigid for my own good. :-)
.....Aaron / Arontius.
