Keeping Up With The Agenda.
May. 4th, 2010 08:14 pm.....Brighid was just gushing on IM at how well TBT is handling the Baronial Business Meeting. TBT already has plans for re-writing and re-organizing the agenda I gave her as a guideline to the meeting. As in all other things TBT makes the job of Seneschal(e) seem easy and effortless. I should probably be worried that Their Excellencies may corner me next weekend and ask if I would step aside and let TBT take over the job for the rest of their tenure. Which isn't necessarily a bad idea. TBT always has a lot of good ideas (comes from being uber smart). Maybe we should encourage her to put them into practice and incorporate them into the Office? I could take a break from doing really anything of an administrative nature in the SCA, and the Baronial Populace could get someone in the Seneschal(e)'s chair that they could actually like. Definitely a win-win for everyone. I may corner TBT myself this weekend and see how much she enjoyed being Seneschal(e) for the evening.
.....It was another long day on site. I logged into the computer at about a quarter to six and pulled out my card at about 4:30. I did get a lot done, although quite a bit of that time was spent in frustration in waiting for the computer to talk to home and actually respond to requests. In some ways I'll be glad to be back home just so I can revel in the relative speed of the computers in the Shipyard.
.....People are starting to track me down here though, which is keeping logged into the computer longer at the end of the day because of the time differential between the two coasts. But it is still kind of nice to not be truly accessible. I liked being able to work through a couple of Projects without distractions for like a whole hour or longer. :-) I guess I never realized just how much the phone ringing on the desk breaks my concentration on any normal day.
.....Sigh! The Big Boss DID track us down today though. We have a Telecom scheduled with him tomorrow morning to discuss our current status and schedule on the two Projects we're working down here. I can already tell that it is going to be fun. He basically grilled us for an hour today, first on how behind we were on one Project and how far ahead we were on the other. I always find it frustrating how much I am lectured when we are under budget, almost as much as when we are over budget. And they never want to wait until we're closer to being complete with the Project so as to get a true picture of how much we're going to spend in the end. No, we are to be lectured whenever the metrics are going in any other direction by neutral.
.....Left the Project Trailer and it was raining outside. Caught me by surprise. But it certainly wasn't a cold Washington rain. It felt like lukewarm bath water falling from the sky. The thermometer was reading at 87 degrees. The nice thing about a falling rain here in Georgia is that it seems to keep the actual steaminess down to a minimum. The rain here makes everything smell fresh. I think I like the rain here. :-)
.....Another Code called me up today and asked whether I would be willing to take on a new job. That's like the third or fourth job offer over the past month. Dood! If I could take on a new job, I would have done so a long time ago. Thanks for the offer, but the Big Boss has approximately six months left before I am paroled. :-)
.....Two weeks is about my limit. I'm starting to fret at not being able to get things done at home. It is also amazing how fast you get left behind and forgotten when you are not there in the middle of things directing traffic. I realize that in most ways this is a good thing in that activities can stand on their own whether you are there or not. But I measure my value with my level of contribution in the activities of the Barony and I'm starting to feel a little useless. Three or four weeks before June Faire is definitely not good timing for an off-station job anyway. Need to work harder to ensure that doesn't happen in the future.
.....Time for bed.
.....Aaron / Arontius.
