.....An interesting day at work today. I was slammed the minute I sat down to my desk. But I managed to keep up with everything and had a couple of interesting conversations to boot.

.....My stand-in during my absence had a very difficult time keeping up with the needs of the Project in Kings Bay. The Project Manager was rather frustrated and was effusive (for him :-)) with my return to work. Which was the very first phone call of the morning. It was a good start. It always feels good to be appreciated.

.....Then, later in the day, I had the interesting phone call. The Program Manager for the Code that wanted me earlier this year called. I had been helping them with some of their Projects, sort of under the table, for the past few months. Over the past couple of weeks they had temporarily lost their Planning Manager and needed a replacement. While I was away at June Faire it was my understanding that the Program Manager discussed a replacement, or even a temporary replacement, for their guy, and my name came up again and again and again. I guess this made him give a lot more serious thought to somehow figuring out how to bring me over.

.....Soooo, the Program Manger actually went to the Big Boss and dickered for my use, on even a temporary basis, to be the Planning Manager for the Code. The Big Boss was finally persuaded to the point of saying that if my current Project Manager gives his blessing, I could go over.

.....This may be the proverbial 'foot-in-the-door' we've been waiting for. The Program Manager is going to call my Project Manager tomorrow and discuss details.

.....I'm not ready to pack and move just yet as there are still hurdles to jump. But I'm hopeful. The Program Manager told me that once they get me over for even half-days of support that they would do what it took to keep me in that position and eventually pull me over completely. The hope being that they can pull both me and my current workload over.

.....And? I guess we're going to keep me at my current rate, which will convert back over to GS-13 later this year.

.....I suppose this is not totally good news as the Code for Miscellaneous Work is super busy and I'll be thrown into a Frying Pan the minute I step through their door. But their management is an easy bunch to work with. And? they have an entire staff of people to help. No more of this trying to take on a dozen jobs on to myself. That could be rather nice. :-)

.....The Big Boss did not call me into his office for a lecture and the Mid Level Boss was not at work today. All-in-all, a very nice transition back into the 'Real World'. :-)
