.....Sigh. We've rounded the far turn and are entering the home stretch. Our first certification happens on Friday. Final testing starts on Monday. Final certification starts next Wednesday. Things are still going wrong, but the finish line is finally starting to become a visible entity.

.....The level of chaos is sure high though. Picture a group of Muppets. Think of them being chased across the stage as a group by a big furry monster. Their arms are flailing. They are screaming nonsensical phases. When you can picture this in your mind you have a good view of how things are going at the moment.

.....We meet on a daily basis to go over the certification process. We slowly talk out way through each step. Who does what. What paperwork needs to be completed. How do we transition to the next step. Everyone goes away calmly and confidently from the meeting. Two hours later? I'm getting frantic phone calls from everyone who attended wondering what the hell they do next. How do we get this paperwork finished. Who do they call for help. So, I pull everyone together into yet another meeting. We again go over the process. We talk about who, what, when. Everyone calms down. They leave the meeting calmly and confidently. Two hours later? The Muppet arms are flailing again.

.....I've just about given up thinking that we're going to get through this with all of our limbs intact. But we'll do our best. Now, if I can just keep the regulators at bay for just one more week....

.....Next week, when I'm sitting in the Shipyard Commander's office, watching him sign the final certification letter, will rank right up there as one of the happiest days of my life! :-)

.....We've been given warning at work. The Shipyard is getting tired of standard 'Project Management' and has decided to move on to the next phenomenal method of doing work. We're going to start transitioning the Yard away from Project Management and to a 'new' concept called 'Product Line Management'. It's a fancy title for 'Value Stream' more or less. The 'LEAN' approach to Project Management.

.....Essentially, from what I understand, the role of Project Superintendent was getting way too powerful and was causing chaos in resource management. Each Project Superintendent was doing their level best to capture the best or the most resources to finish their own Projects on time and under budget. When all the Projects are competing amongst themselves for the resources, instead of working together, chaos ensues. At times it's been pretty ugly and the trades have suffered.

.....So, Shops are going to be empowered to create 'Product Lines' that pull resources from various Trades into a single group that provides a 'Product'. In my case, it looks like I'm going to be integrated into a Product Line for the Electrical Group, a Product Line specializing in Submarine Batteries.

.....Code 360 was hoping to pull me in to their group here next month, but I don't think it's going to happen. I'm not too worried. I'm just happy at the moment I have some place to go. I kind of wish I could go with a group that does a little more traveling, but that probably wouldn't be all that great while being Baron at the same time. So things are probably working out for the best.

.....I'm still not placing any bets on where I'll be three months from now. Anything is possible. But at least I'll be able to take some leave without feeling guilty, starting in about a week and a half. I can't wait!!! :-)
