.....Yeah, there were ten million things we SHOULD have done with our first day off in months. But what did we do? We went and walked a potential large scale event site. And the worst of it? We were totally excited to do so. Yeah, we're dorks. :-)

.....The site is by the Bremerton National Airport. Across the State Highway in the Industrial Park area. We've been salivating over the site for YEARS! The Port of Bremerton actually owns the land. It used to be a Trailer Park (called 'Norseland' :-)). But the trailer park was closed down and demolished due to soil and water contamination (used to be an old dumping ground). It's been regularly tested and recently passed for use again for commercial and other purposes. For several years it was the landing zone for a parachuting group (from the airport just across the street from the site).

.....Arion worked with the Port of Bremerton for several years to try and persuade them to rent it to us for an event site. But the Port was never interested. Recently, as mentioned, Bernie let us know that the Bremerton Motor Sports Group had established a lease with the Port for the site with the understanding that they would develop it into a large scale car racing site. Which will take many years and many millions of dollars to accomplish. Queue 'generation of income', i.e. groups who would like to rent the site in the interim for use in outdoor events, of which Kitsap County lacks in any real capacity (especially at any sort of affordable price).

.....The site is located here on Google: <http://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&ll=47.4954,-122.771482&spn=0.002421,0.008583&t=h&z=18&vpsrc=6>

.....TBT, Oliver, Richard, Gwen and I went out this morning and walked the site. What we saw really excited us. There is a HUGE field that could be the event all in itself. Plus plenty of space for camping in lower fields. Another field for parking. And yet another area for RV parking and camping. Made me almost wish that I was the June Faire Chairperson this year. :-)

.....There are issues of course (no site is perfect). We would have to have brush cut. Roads would have to be fixed. There are no shady trees. :-)

.....The June Faire Chairs have yet to tour the site. And really, we haven't even seen or heard anything 'official' from anyone yet, so we can't actually PLAN anything. But it is hard to not get excited. I have loved Port Gamble. But we haven't felt the love returned from them in a while, and we've known it was time to move. They've done their best to be patient with us. But it would be fantastic if this works out to be the next step in the evolution of June Faire.

.....Here are a couple of pictures:

.....The Main Field. You can't appreciate the size of the place from this picture. But it is HUGE.

.....Looking towards the Northwest across the large field and out to the Olympics.

.....A secondary field.

.....It's hard to see the potential just from these pictures. But for us here in Kitsap County, it is GOLDEN. We've been feeling the squeeze for years now. Venues are not easy to come by here, and are EXPENSIVE. This location has the potential to really open doors for us.

.....I know, I'm a dork. But I can't help it. I'm excited! :-)

.....Just hoping that others will be as excited as I am. :-)
