Sympathy and appreciation for teachers greatly drops off when parents are worried about how they will be able to work and take care of their kids at the same time. And I bet every one of the parents who thinks teachers should not be able to strike would insist that they themselves have a right to strike.
In my opinion school teachers are paid very little for what they do and for their education level. I suspect I'm biased but I'm convinced I'm right. I think there is an expectation for people to teach as a low paying public service and there is some residual sexist holdover where teaching is supposed to be a hobby job for wives, not a job you would actually support a family with. Teacher's unions usually fight to improve things for the the students, not the teachers, which makes me wonder why the teachers are paying union dues instead of the parents.
Having the teacher's name and pay posted? Wow, I sure wouldn't like that. At least they aren't posting their credit card balances. I suppose the information is easily attainable on the internet but I wish it weren't. How intrusive. Makes me look forward to a the next news article about Tacoma News Tribune reporters getting laid off due to dropping newspaper subscriptions. I'll hope the laid off reporters are the one's who thought the teachers were overpaid and undeserving.
