You and I need to sit down with a tequila and discuss this in person. Too much to say by typing.
Couple of general questions for you.
>The seven knightly virtues are courage, justice, mercy, generosity, faith, >nobility and hope.
Where did you get this list?
I'm not sure I agree with them. I was always taught the tenets of chivalry are: prowess, generosity, loyalty, franchise (noble bearing), and honor.
Is a peer acting peer-like (nobly or chivalrously) a service?
Undoubtedly it is a service to the Society to serve as a good example of the best (most noble) of medieval virtues. However is it Service (with a capital "S") like Pelicans perform or is it one of the many services expected due to our rank as peers?
>This service should be recognized as...'inspiration’.
I can see inspiration more as a personal emotion brought on from an external source. So for some people, someone performing a Service for the Society might be an inspiration. But I think inspiration is a very personal thing and it's difficult to make generalizations about it.
And, even if such service is an inspiration to some people, does that mean it's a Service to the Society?
We gotta talk. Name the place. I'll bring the tequila.
