arontius: (RIP - Arontius' Badge.)

.....Back in the '90's when heraldry was new to me and I was excited as hell to get my heraldry all passed, I worked on a badge. The original concept was a silver quill pen on a red flame. There was a conflict though with some other similar badge and so, after consulting with THL Maryn Grey, I put the silver quill pen on a blue flame and it passed quickly through the College of Heralds.

.....At the time I was totally unaware of what the Bluefeather Clan was. Later when I WAS introduced to a number of their group, I didn't think much of it. Don't get me wrong, I have a number of friends who are members of the Bluefeather Clan. But I never counted myself as a member of their clan. And I never made any connections between my badge and their clan.

.....Well, earlier this year I start getting teased mercilessly by THE Royal Peer (Hwolf) and Master Ljotr about the 'Blue Feather Badge' that I seem to be proudly displaying in Lobelia. I laughed at them at first and STILL didn't think that it was a big deal. THEN, several others came up to me (mostly in private) and expressed their own thoughts on the matter. That being that when several of them saw the badge for the first time they thought themselves that I might be claiming space in the Bluefeather Clan.

.....This caught me totally by surprize. I have a difficult enough time relating to women without them having to even consider this line of thought. :-) So, after much consideration, this badge is about to be retired. All copies are about to hit the shredder. But it is not all bad news. It means more space in my heraldic allotment to pass something new! :-)

.....Aaron / Arontius.

You're not the only one with blue feather identification issues. :) A good friend of mine wore a fabulous blue feather in his hat for years, primarily because it matched his stunning cavalier outfit. I didn't think anything of it until he said something about no women being interested in him at SCA events. Then I explained the signifigance of the feather...He was shocked, then amused, then had a total fit of laughter. The feather stayed home after that.

I think you should look into something resembling the Team Haggis design. ;-)
