Greetings to my Friends,

Well, I was a little overwhelmed by the response to my first posting. :-) I'm always a bit surprized by the number of firends I have, I count myself very lucky in that regard. Thank you.

Wish I had more time to keep up with Live Journal. There are so many things to do these days. But here is something that I wrote with Sir Richard. He does this Sonnet exercise where he throws out the first two lines and then I respond with two new lines of my own (we split the final two line between each other). Then we critique each other. It is a lot of fun! Especially when the two people involved a.) like sonnetry and b.) have very similar tastes but divergent opinions on things as Sir Richard and I do. :-)

The cord awaits, just breathless for a chance
To find in noble trinity rebirth;
Around, a solid compass to enhance
The empty heaven's gift of untold worth.

The Father nurtures sacred sparks of fire
That warm the Ghostly dancers to the root;
And now they sing the warming hymns of choir
As holy Son plays passion on the lute.

Pavane becomes a Galliard as they race,
Each other's eyes now draws them toward their goals
As lovers meet in glorious embrace,
A fearsome union that consumes their souls.

The fires of life burn strongly with desire
The quest for love enflames and hearts inspire.

With Love, Arontius / Aaron.

Greetings All,

I was reading entries in Marquessa Laurellen's LJ today, especially the one concerning her being a Laurel and the return remarks from it. I myself became a peer last year and recognize some of the doubts she had on becoming a peer. I have my own response to that from my own perspective that I'll save for another day. But reading that reminded me of a sonnet I wrote for Marquessa Laurellen when She was Her Majesty Laurellen. At that time I was still VERY idealistically in love with the ROMANCE of the SCA. I still am (it's what keeps me in the Society and playing), but the reality of life in the SCA and the other personalities involved has tempored that romance a great deal.

But I ramble. During that year when Queen Laurellen reigned I was definitely in love with her from afar. It inspired in me a sonnet that I gifted to her amongst a grouping of presents that my Household at the time, The Spenser-Longfellow Trading Company, gave to her at the July Coronation where she stepped down. At the time I wrote this I was definitely a novice to how sonnets should be written and did not understand how important meter is to a sonnet. It is what sets the rhythem. It creates something that flows in the mind and makes it memorable. But I still love this sonnet because it went a long way towards expressing my feelings towards Marquessa Laurellen at the time. I hope that she finds it at least acceptable. :-) There is a reason why Marquessa Laurellen should continue to play in the SCA, if only because of the love She inspires with Her very presence.

Unto Laurellen; Queen Now, Queen Forever Be

Through the sharp, bright light gleaming from the peers,
walks a seraph all wreathed in lacey white.
They pay reverance to Her as She nears,
for She is their Queen, undoubted and right.

She ascends the dais as Lioness,
protectress of all She loves in this land.
She brushes all with a gentle caress,
as she holds them in the palm of her hand.

Suddenly she smiles, and laughs in pleasure,
seeing an artist displaying his talent.
Her own crown of Laurel is our treasure,
as Her own delight is the sacrament.

The Queen of An tir our souls She doth shield.
As She nurtures with the gift She doth wield.
