Running On Empty.
Apr. 15th, 2010 09:35 pm.....Sometime in the past twenty-four hours I hit the wall and just ran out of energy completely. When I made it home from work the only thing I could do was sit and stare at the T.V. Forget the major list of 'must get dones' sitting on the desk. I just couldn't face them.
.....Work was a little weird today. The mid-level boss is either much smarter than I have always credited him for being? Or else is insane. I had a meeting with him today to go over some status slides for a weekly report and he told me his philosophy on dealing with the Big Boss. The Big Boss has a reputation that is well known all over the Shipyard. You mention his name and you immediately get nods of sympathy.
.....The mid-level boss recognized the attitude the minute he started working for the Big Boss and decided 'to do something about it'. He set the Big Boss down and basically informed him that his attitude sucked and that people were unwilling to even come into his presence. He informed the Big Boss that he needed to gain some 'humanity'. The philosophy being that if people did not willingly approach you with their problems, then you will not hear of problems until they become major emergencies.
.....Now I admire this approach, but am not sure I could have pulled this conversation off with the Big Boss without sounding insincere. But apparently it might have worked as the Big Boss has not dressed me down with his usual flair for over a week now. I'm not letting my guard down though. When the Big Boss lets loose it is PAINFUL. So my defenses stay in place for the time being. :-)
.....There is a member of the Baronial Populace working at the Shipyard who is going through a major life crisis. I stopped by and spoke with her today. Basically to make sure she was O.K. and to make sure she knew that there were people who were worried about her and were willing to be there if she needed any kind of support. I think that she appreciated the support. She is a very nice person, so I hope that she makes it O.K.
.....It was a good reminder about the 'Family of Choice' with which we surround ourselves. When I was growing up, my family was highly dysfunctional. My friends really were my family and I leaned on them heavily. Even into adulthood I relied on my friends for all of my support and I'm grateful to them as they supported me through a few rough times.
.....Sometimes I forget that the SCA is another extended family. They may not be our blood relations, but we spend a lot of our free time with them. We work with them. We share our troubles with them. We share our success with them as well. Sometimes the grind is such that I tend to take the Baronial Family for granted. But when I think on it I am amazed at the number of times they've supported me in endeavours big and small. Helped me in issues where I needed help. Laughed with me in the good times. Shared in the success of fantastic events. I need to appreciate my SCA Family more than I do.
.....Success on the Western Regional Pelican Meeting front. We have buy-in to have the meeting in Dragon's Laire next week. Fantastic! No freakishly long drive to the other side of the water this month. But I need to get the agenda done and posted this weekend. Not a hard job, but sometimes it takes a while to put together all of the information. It'll be a good gathering though. Complete with dinner provided by
brighidross. :-)
.....On the agenda to get done is the Seneschal Report for the first quarter of 2010. Must poke at the last couple of people to post their responses on the Customary Review. Must send e-mail to Donnan and Callista. I'm sure there are a couple more 'must dos', but I'm way too tired to remember them right now. :-)
.....I'm glad tomorrow is Friday. I'm ready for a weekend.
.....Aaron / Arontius.
