More Nostalgia - R.I.P Ronnie.
May. 16th, 2010 09:16 pm.....Wow! Just read about the passing away of Ronnie James Dio. I remember a couple of really, really good concerts back in the late '80's and early '90's where Dio was the opening act. I remember one time when Dio opened for Metallica at the King Dome of all places. Boy! Does that bring back a lot of memories.
.....I remember Dio at that concert primarily as it was the opening act, and we weren't drunk out of our brains quite yet and could still really hear, and understand, what was being sung on the stage. The King Dome may not have had wonderful acoustics, but they pumped the sound out so much that you literally heard the music for days after you went home. I do not find it difficult at all to figure out why I have trouble hearing certain things these days. :-)
.....But Ronnie had this powerful, deep, rough, and booming voice that was unique in comparison to the other vocalists of the day. If he'd had some good writing to back it up, he would have went a lot further with Dio. Maybe even as far as he did with Black Sabbath.
.....When Metallica hit the stage later on in the evening, James Hetfield actually called Ronnie out on stage and spent a good five or ten minutes talking about how good Ronnie could sing and how much he admired Ronnie. I kind of wish that they had sung something together. But I'm not sure what they could have done as they have two such different styles. I thought it cool though that James would recognize him in that way.
.....If I still drank, and could recover from it in time for work tomorrow, I'd go and have a couple of shots of Jack Daniels to commerate the passing of Ronnie. But I'll just remember the good times and wish Ronnie well in his next big adventure.
.....Requiescat in pace, Ronnie. You will be missed.
.....Aaron / Arontius.
