.....Echoing Giovanni's LJ entry of earlier this morning, I was also rather glad to see Angharad's post to the Dragon's Laire e-list. I had been mulling over something similar to say, but her post was short and to-the-point. Several people jumped right on it, which is a good thing.

.....There seems to have been a general current of unease lately which was really showing on the D.L. e-list. I'm not entirely sure of the cause, and it may have nothing whatsoever with Dragon's Laire or the SCA at all. But maybe people will take a second or two, at least for a while, to think about their e-mails (and re-read them) before they are posted.

.....I know that Her Excellency was getting frustrated with what was happening. I may show up at the December Business Meeting and find that my A** has been fired as Seneschal because Angharad has shown she can do a much better job at bringing the Barony together than I can. :-)

.....I certainly do not want the D.L. list to turn into some version of the Step(pe)s. Maybe it'll take a little more diligence to ensure that real negativity is nipped in the proverbial bud before it grows. No one likes being told what to do though, and monitoring the list that closely smacks of control.

.....Will have to give thought to that.

.....Whine alert - Still wishing that I had ready access to my personal e-mail at work, and the ability to access LJ more often.

.....Aaron / Arontius.

Arontius, I don't think it was *nearly* as bad as could be. We are just not used to lively discussions on that list. The thing is, everyone reads things differently, and sometimes folks don't get what one is truly saying. Email can be a difficult medium.

I also have not seen unease. But, it can't be perfect all the time. I'm actually feeling better about a lot of things baronial than I have in ages.

The difference is we have a very high expectation for behavior on our list, which is a very good thing. We don't want anyone to be afraid to post.

Everyone understands that you can't get to your email until late in the evening. Like you are going to be fired. Right.

You need to drink some caffeine this morning my friend..have another Diet Mountain Dew...and trust both Cedric and me and your own skills more. We think you are doing a bang up job...and you are not, and can't be held responsible for the ill advised tone that anyone uses on any list. Sheesh...big smack for you when I see you next!

I am going to glide gracefully right over the fact that you are being One Silly Man if you think you can keep other people from ill-advised e-mails, and go straight to the unsolicited observations--dear heart, if you were the only person in your branch who could or would straighten these people out, and doing so was always your job, you would have a really, really bad problem. As it is, you are able to rely on all sorts of clued-in types to intervene firmly but courteously. You are obviously doing something freakin' right over there. So there.

Your list is fine. I was a bit surprised to see some of the comments, but I never felt that it got really nasty, and it was handled. It doesn't have to be handled by you always.

If you really want to see a mailing list get nasty, I can send you a few exchanges I've kept from the BAO list. You folks are fine.

That's kind of what I thought. I only saw one message that I was very uncomfortable with, and Angharad handled it nicely. I wasn't sure how my messages were being taken, so I apoligized just in case...plus continued my discussions privately.

I'm really impressed with how polite our list is. I think Master A worries too much...

Man, I think I missed something juicy. I have no idea what you're talking about Aaron. I admit that I don't read all posts on our list since I get about 100 emails a day from various sources I just don't have time to process all of them. Darn, I guess I'll just have to change some things so I can read more of these emails.

I hope you didn't feel like I was stepping on your toes. I merely posted as a private citizen. In fact, it was precisely because I'm no longer the Seneschal that I felt I could speak my mind. Well, not all of my mind - only the nicer portion. ;-)

Listen to [livejournal.com profile] countess_e - she has it nailed, as usual.
