.....Here's a sonnet I wrote for Antonia de Galicia, Dragon's Laire's former Bardic Guildmistress, in celebration of her birthday. She's going through some tough times at the moment, a divorce and troubles at work. She is a very nice person who would do anything for anyone. She is also one of those 'high strung artist types' who are deeply into their craft. :-) She's always heckling me to practice my Bass Recorder and Gemshorn, and I do my best.
.....One time though I made the mistake of mentioning to her that I like to listen to Lorena McKinnet (sp?) music. She looked like she just ate a bug. Purists in the craft of early music don't think much of 'Celtic' music I guess. But Antonia is super-cool all the same. :-)

The buds of May danced upon leafy boughs.
They kept in time with the bright merry tune.
The beat of this life renewed by Spring's vows,
To celebrate the birth of nature's rune.

In joyful tribute this musician gave
Her gifts of wonder that fired passion's flame
The tempo rose as the wild muses rave
To strive in loud voice to call her by name.

In laughter she moves her hands on the strings.
Her movements capture all in a sweet thrall.
These souls she holds hear pleasure she then brings,
As beauty will flow forth and fill the hall.

Let all who hear her bow low as she nears!
Let this great bard bring us joy to our ears!

.....It's an English sonnet, so I guess I'm being lazy. I tried hard to follow the thought through, although I can see several instances where I stray. I will keep working on that. :-) This one was done over a space of about an hour and a half. I couldn't sleep last night for some reason. I've noticed that the time frames for these creations has been steadily shrinking. That could be good and bad. Good in that it is getting easier to put the rhymes together. Bad in that I might be entering a period of 'laziness' in that I take the easy way out instead of digging deeper for inspiration and the muse. :-)

.....BTW, in this instance, the word 'rune' is used as 'song' or 'poem' rather than the norse alphabet that many automatically think, but it could also stand for 'mystery' and 'magic'. Either or both interpretations fit well I think.

.....Hope everyone has a good day today. It's Friday!!!! :-)
