.....It was good to see The Beloved Tamm (TM) geek out with friends last night. With just Rhys and I at home, she needs to have the opportunity to have an ADULT CONVERSATION every now and then. And just for the record, I did not feel 'run off' by anyone. It looked like Tamm was having great fun and I did not want to interrupt. Besides, I answered e-mail and then promptly fell asleep. :-)

.....Off to a Pelican meeting tomorrow at Ursulmas. Hope that the snow stays to a minimum. I don't mind driving in it, just makes any commute that much longer. Plus, we'd really like Rhys to get some more 'kid time' with Nimue and family, and snow would put a real damper on that.

.....Is Mistress Khalja going to be at Ursulmas? I need to find out. She said that she might be able to fit my armor into her load of stuff going to Estrella. I have to talk to her about it and see what arrangements I have to get made, and how much it is going to cost. I'm getting excited though. Can't wait to go! :-)

.....Was putting on armor the other day and ran across a favor that Dame Ellen had made for me a while back. It was a really nice gesture and I certainly appreciated it. It was always a reminder that someone really always has cared about who I am and what I did. I asked The Beloved Tamm (TM) the other day if she would make me a favor to wear. I thought that maybe she would laugh or look at me as if wondering why I needed one. But she actually seemed happy to take it on as a new Project. Some people seem to have the opinion that 'favors' are not what 'serious' SCA players do. But, I don't agree. Maybe it is just a romantic idea on my part. But I like the symbolism involved. The chivalry and the reminder that you do not champion a cause or call forth a challenge just for yourself. Doing something for another like this makes you responsible for a little bit of their honour as well. Gives you a different, and more awesome, aspect of this game we are playing. Kinda gives you goosebumps if you think about it at all. :-)

.....Thinking of challenges, the following Saturday is Candlemas. Traditionally, that is when the call goes out for Sargeantry candidates. I haven't heard anything from Her Excellency Brighid, so I'm guessing that She is still mulling over the whole concept. I understand why She is unsure about how to progress, but I don't necessarily agree with all of Her reasoning (but it is O.K. for friends to disagree, right? :-)). I DO agree with Her that the whole concept has changed since its early days. But for my part, I relish the challenge of seeing whether or not I have the knowledge and skill-set to actually BE a member of the Sargeantry. It's something I have wanted to do for a long time. Not as any sort of 'peerage stepping stone', but for everything I would learn and experience in the process. If Her Excellency decides that She really doesn't want to take this on this year, maybe She wouldn't mind if I went to another for the challenge? I'll have to talk to Her about it.

.....Gotta run, looks like a busy Friday already. But it IS Friday! Yeah!!!

.....I surprized Cedric over the weekend by saying that I was planning on armoring up at Estrella. It has always been a dream of mine to be a part of that war. I've always stood on the sidelines and watched. It looks exciting as hell. So I was determined to do at least one battle. So when Cedric hears this in the truck on the way to Twelfth Night, he about drives off the side of the road and then tells me that if I show up in armor at Tuesday's Fight Practice he and Brighid will GO to Estrella this year, even though they had earlier decided not to do so.

.....When I arrived at home from work I was a little nervous as I gathered armor together. Then I became a LOT nervous because I could not find my chest plate. The garage is a pit that needs to be tamed BADLY (I put it on the 'to-do' list for the weekend). I tore the place apart looking for the armor. The Beloved Tamm helped search as well, but we couldn't find it. So we got into the car and drove to site. I unlocked the doors and helped set things up and then ran back home to see if I could find it. I knew that Cedric wasn't going to hear excuses of any kind and that it was important to find it.

.....After another hurricane of flying boxes I finally found the damned thing. It was buried underneath the pile of pavilion carpets at the very back of the garage. Argh! I run back to site with armor in hand.

.....Back to site (and after dropping off a mocha with the Beloved Tamm). I start pulling on all the pieces. I'm really nervous by this time, so I'm fumbling with everything and can not seem to make my fingers operate properly. Luckily for me, Ronan and Alys were there and helped me get everything onto my body. Then Aelianora walks in with checks to sign and we conversed on a few exchequer things. Believe it or not, that helped calm me down a couple of notches. Probably because I was concentrating on something other than how silly I was going to look.

.....Then Cedric calls me out onto the floor and tells everyone that he is oathbound to attend Estrella if he and I fight at least one fight this evening. Sigh! Now everyone is staring. I walked forward and tried to remember things I was taught in the past. I was a total spaz. But Cedric is a genuinely nice person who cares about doing the right thing. So I eventually get a little more comfortable. We spar for a short time and Cedric announces that the oath if fulfilled and that he is now going.

.....After that, I fought with Oliver and with Sir Alexsii (sp?). Both very patient with me. I finally started remembering a couple of things. I was still a total spaz, but I think that if I keep working on it some of it will come back. Oliver said that he'd help me out, which is great.

.....I'd forgotten how much stamina it takes to move in armor for long. I'd also forgotten how much your center-of-balance changes with all of your armor on your body. But after all was said and done, I was glad that I went through it. I'm definitely going back next Tuesday and I may see if I can get in a couple of extra practices in with Oliver off to the side.

.....This is going to be a freakin' busy week though. June Faire meeeting tonight. Scribal Meeting on Thursday. Taking Mom out grocery shopping (and Games Night) on Friday. Sheep-To-Shawl on Saturday. Scribal Workshop on Sunday. Kingdom A&S meeting on Monday. Hmmm, got the 'to-do' list to go through as well.

.....The Beloved Tamm goes to the Artisan's Retreat in Oregon this weekend. She'll get some time with Gulenay as well, which I think will be good for her. Looks like a large group of the Dragon's Laire 'Women-Of-Power' (TM) are traveling to the Retreat as well. Hope that the Beloved Tamm doesn't decide that she doesn't need me anymore, being in that vortex of power might be kinda cool when compared to the drudgery of home. :-)

.....Time for work, Aaron / Arontius.

.....Greetings,

.....I should have taken an extra day off. But the guilt side of me kept seeing the mound of paperwork at my desk and reminding me that one more day just means several more inches to the pile. :-) I'm here now and it's bad, but not too bad. Just have to finish waking up and make my brain move in the correct direction. It's still fuzzy from the weekend.

.....Got all the laundry done. All the stuff I pulled out of Lobelia is either put away or drying in the basement (stuff we set aside on Thursday night set up was still wet from the downpours we had that day). I made heavy inroads into the e-mail traffic. Started the files for the September issue of The Crier.

.....Thinking that the best way to thank as many people as possible for their work on July Coronation is to take out a full page in The Crier to do so. Being the editor does have a few perks to it. :-)

.....Going to try and get caught up on lawn work this week. The jungle is about to be tamed!!! The damned raccoons are about to lose their play field. Will serve them right, the nasty buggers. I hate them. Every time I make the pond look pretty they gleefully come in and rip it to shreds. I hate them as much as Cedric hates squirrels. :-)

.....Putting together the last bits of armor. I'm going to drag my butt back to practice starting on the 26th. I don't need to be a good fighter. I'm just looking to be competent enough to be on the war field at Estrella. I'm definitely going next February and it has always been a dream of mine to participate in at least some of the battles. Time to make that happen before I take on another commitment. :-)

.....I'm also determined that it is time to get the hot tub fixed. That's on the 'to-do' list this week as well.

.....And several sonnets are looming on the horizon. :-)

.....Well, back to work. Wish me luck in making it through the day without going postal on someone. :-)
