.....After a very long and frustrating day at work I came home to a wonderful peanut chicken dinner prepared by the Beloved Laurellen. She thinks that she is not a cook, but after tasting some of the things that she has made I would have to disagree. :-)

.....After dinner, I SHOULD have done chores like mucking out the computer room, going through bills, getting The Crier finances organized for an easy turn-over to Angharad. But I was so tired that I veg'ged on the couch and then picked up some cardweaving. I had some cards strung up from September Crown, but hadn't thrown them onto a loom yet.

.....I've done some cardweaving before, but it had been a very long time since I had played with the cards. The Beloved Tamm helped me set everything up and then let me go. It's just a simple squared pattern with ten cards, all going in the same direction, but it is a start.

.....I made a couple of mistakes to start, so the pattern breaks up in the first couple of inches, but I started picking up the pattern mentally, so I could start recognizing the pattern as I was turning the cards and so could avoid mistakes. When I did make a mistake I recognized it earlier and was able to backtrack easier and faster and set it straight.

.....One thing I still need to work on perfecting is the tension on the thread as I go back-and-forth. It is still a little haphazard. Sometimes tighter and sometimes looser. Need to make that more even. But I did remember something that Ellen mentioned at September Crown about the importance of beating the thread tight against the body so as to keep the pattern as tight as possible. The shuttle I'm using has a pretty thick edge, so I took a hint from Ellen and am using a kitchen knife as a beater.

.....Worked on it until I started falling asleep. Was rather fun actually, and something I could work on when attending meetings or similar. A nice bonus.

.....Ack! Time to run for work. Hope everyone has a good day today.
