.....It's hard to believe it is already about 8PM on Sunday night. I do not feel the need or desire to go into work tomorrow. :-) But at least today was productive. Only one more thing to do really tonight and then I think I'll trundle off to bed.

.....TBT seems to be coming down with a cold that I'm managing to avoid. I really think I escaped through the return of zinc to my diet. I was out of zinc and not taking any during the last two colds I had, and I'm avoiding this one. I know that isn't any sort of real and scientific proof, but it is a rather telling coincidence as far as I'm concerned.

.....This week will be a short work week. A rather large security drill is scheduled and most non-essential personnel were given the option of taking the most intensive days of the drill off from work on liberal leave. So next weekend will be a four day weekend, which will be kind of nice.

.....Taking the security drills of this week seriously though. Taking a look at what I'm lugging around in my backpack to reduce the amount of 'stuff' in it. There is no contraband in it, but a nice and fat backpack makes a nice target to those watching the gate and can be a call for a thorough search of its contents. Which will take time and effort that I'd rather put into either getting to my desk or going home after work. :-)

.....My portion of the taxes were completed today. I put the Ingasbo Spread Sheet together for 2011. Paid the Washington State Sales Tax and filled with the state for last year. Then .pdf'ed everything for TBT so she could finish out our Federal Tax filing. Everything else was already completed and ready to go, just waiting for the Ingasbo stuff to come together.

.....Most of this morning and last night was spent in putting together the Western Regional Pelican notes and data for the Winter Quarter. Lots of loose notes that had to come together into one place. Candidates that had to be added to the database. Files to be updated. E-mails to be sent out. But it also finally came together this afternoon. I sent out an e-mail to the Regional e-list and will be all ready to go before the Kingdom's online meeting of later this week.

.....Spent some time trying to get the Smart Phone talking correctly with Project Gutenberg. For some reason, none of the E-Pubs downloadable from PG would open correctly in any of the readers that were supposed to be compatible. They would when downloaded to the desktop, but not the phone. I finally stumbled on the solution after a couple of hours of frustration, and I'm not entirely sure how I fixed the issue. But I was totally caught off guard when The Four Feathers and then A Princess of Mars opened up for me. I'm not going to complain and will enjoy the downloads.

.....Project Gutenberg has been fantastic! It's amazing how many titles are available for download there. Amazon and Barnes & Nobles may not see me for a while. :-)

.....Yesterday was the really non-productive day of the weekend. I spent a handful of hours trying to clean up files on the computer and put them into some sort of logical order. It's a mess when you don't set up and maintain something easy and organized. What you end up with in that case are files scattered everywhere on your computer and difficulty in finding anything. But I finally mucked out everything to a system and location where I'll actually be able to find something in the future.

.....Friday was my first day as the Execution Manager in charge of the group in the absence of the Mid Level Boss. The required crisis hit very first thing in the morning. I was riding that surfboard pretty good until the Mid Level Boss showed up anyway. The people who were calling me were not happy with my answers and we're calling him in ever increasing desperation. :-) He came in and solved the problem, using a source he'd not told anyone about. So even though I ended up looking a little like a dork, I had done the right thing and stuck to it. I like the Planning side of things much more. Engineers and Technicians are more esoteric perhaps, but far less 'jumpy' than those who are actually working on the deckplates. :-)

.....Almost missed Conchobar's performance of 'Irish' music at the Silverdale Antique Mall on Saturday night. He had a good turn out there. Lots of bad luck (exploding amplifiers, bad acoustics, etc.), but he still managed to pull off a good show. I enjoyed his singing quite a bit and wish he had played longer. I made sure to emphasize how much I wanted to hear more, and at an SCA event. :-)

.....This week should be relatively easy. There is the usual Social on Tuesday, and Fight Practice on Thursday evening. But no other meetings are scheduled and I do believe that next weekend is free as well. I'm salivating at the thought. :-) I'm sure TBT is as well. She and her group worked hard this weekend to get the Kingdom Largesse bags completed so they could be shipped off to Ula by tomorrow's deadline. They look pretty good. I saw TBT taking pictures of them, so I think they'll be posted soon.

.....I should put together a 'to-do' list for the week, but I'm starting to fall asleep and I do really want to clean out the backpack before bedtime. I think it is time to close up shop on the computer for this weekend.

.....I worked hard at trying to keep the list short, but it still managed to gain some momentum over the past several days. :-) I have now decided to lock it down and will refuse to add to it. And then ensure that for every hour of stuff that 'must be done' and hour of 'is fun to do' is included for balance. As I look at the list though there are several things that could conceivably fall in both or either category. Hmmm.

.....Today is a celebration day! For Ralph and Gwen's birthdays. Out of respect we don't ask for ages. But it is nice to gather with friends and celebrate at our most favorite type of celebration - FOOD!

.....Then more food later, at Matt and Rycheza's for their annual tree trimming party. We had to miss last year's gathering for some reason. I think it was Aquaterra's Yule. But this year we'll definitely go. Matt and Rycheza are good people and it'll be fun to hang out with them for a while.

.....Made a running start at the list yesterday. Spent several hours doing the deep clean of the bathroom. It sparkles like a vampire now. That CLR stuff works incredibly well at removing hard water stains. I'd always thought of it as a gimmick. Now I'm a believer.

.....Tried to brave the Post Office on two separate occasions during the day. It was an absolute mad-house both times!!!! We finally ended up making it work late in the evening and using the kiosk. TBT will still have to brave the crowds next week in order to get her overseas package shipped. I do not envy her that trip. It'll be rough!

.....Mom wanted to see if we could get to her Christmas decorations in the storage unit, so I stopped by there and made the valiant effort. Had some fun with the crabby lady in the office by typing in the code for the Baronial Storage Unit and then opening up Mom's. :-) Took her about ten minutes to come running down the street in her putt-putt mobile to make sure I was not robbing it blind, and then give me a several minute lecture on using the right combination at the gate. I was polite and didn't remind her that she messed up Mom's combination in the system and wouldn't fix it until I brought Mom into the office. Blech!

.....Worked on the financial report for The Crier. All the paperwork is in order. Checks about to be signed and sent off. All income deposited. Would like to finish the Doomsday Report, but Microsoft put a bug into that plan. With the latest Windows patch, the drivers for the external hard drive were made obsolete. The company that manufactured the hard drive was bought out by Seagate and updates were not available. And, of course, the Doomsday Report is on the external hard drive and my back up is six months old. I could recreate it, but would rather not if I can help it. It'll require a lot of work.

.....But will shake all that off and have some fun. I'm looking forward to sleeping in past 4AM tomorrow. Although I still can't seem to sleep much past 5AM. :-) Looking forward to a trip to Seattle. Cell phones and new eye glasses from Costco are also in the plans for the next day or so.

.....Been staring at the portable loom and wanting to grab Madrun on Tuesday for another lesson in the missed hole card weaving technique. I need to cut off what's on there now and warp it up again. I'm really liking the thin wood cards that TBT put on there for the last lesson. They are easy to work, and don't take up nearly the space the monster sized cardboard cards take. Yes, it sometimes takes me a while to accept the truth as the truth. I am, sometimes, a little stubborn. :-)

.....Need to also ping Francesca in Glymm Mere and see how the Yule Feast Toys-For-Tots gathering went. Aquaterra refuses to post a number. :-) I think our 134 toys collected is looking pretty fine! :-)

.....Off to breakfast!

.....Saturday was something of a wash. I went in for a 6:30 AM Telecom with the Really Big Bosses. There was lots of nervousness over getting something fixed on the East Coast. There was a plan made, a back-up plan, and then a second back-up plan. Our part was the back-up plan, whereas we gathered parts pruned from pieces we had at the warehouse. Then we placed those parts in a box, put them in the hands of a mechanic, and sent him to the airport. He used his government credit card to buy a plane ticket and flew to the East Coast to deposit said parts in the hands of the boss on site, at 7AM this morning. When the government wants something done now, it gets done now.

.....After that though, things went downhill fast. I made it home by about 9AM and went out for coffee with TBT and I could feel the pressure coming. By 10AM I was in full blown migraine. And boy, was it bad. I was seeing nothing but fuzzy vision and feeling like I was going to throw up just from simply moving. I went to bed and don't remember much until late last night.

.....What a waste of a day. And I missed Jenae's Birthday all together. Sigh!

.....Today was a little better. Had our morning Telecom at 7AM and listened to the chagrin in the voice of the Really Big Bosses when both the plan, and the back-up plan, came through and two sets of parts were on site. Oh, well, our courier will get on a plane early tomorrow morning and come back with said parts. But the schedule on site will not be slacking because we couldn't come through, that's for sure.

.....At 8AM TBT went out for coffee again and were back home again sometime after 9AM. I started the final breakdown of my old computer. The final e-mail files were moved away, and after a final sweep of the system, everything was unplugged. It was something of a sad moment for me. That old Dell computer was ten years old. It had seen me through being Baronial Book Herald, being Kingdom Chronicler, being Seneschal, and now it was about to be buried. I felt like I was abandoning a friend to be euthanized.

.....I had less trouble saying good-bye to the printer though. That thing had been a pain in the rear for a long while now and I was not sorry to pull it apart and take it away. I resisted dumping it into the trash simply because TBT insisted that it could be recycled. But, man, it was a toss up. I suppose I shouldn't be so frustrated with it as it was as old as the computer. But still, it has never been my favorite printer to use.

.....Then the new computer was all set up and the power pushed. It was a dream in speed. Amazing that I could actually DO things again without going away for a while and waiting for it.

.....Although there were a few surprizes. I did not know that Outlook Express is now obsolete. Call me clueless. I still use it at work, but it is a 2003 edition. New computers don't even have it available and it is not available for download from Microsoft. I had to set up Windows Live Mail. I was trepidatious. It was kinda scary. But after playing with it for about ten minutes it was like I'd been using it all my life. Especially after I copied and pasted all 600 pieces of e-mail that I had copied over from my old e-mail inbox into it. :-)

.....The new printer was a little more stubborn. I had to reinstall the drivers several times before I hit the right combination to allow it to speak to the computer wirelessly. Wow! Wirelessly! The keyboard, the mouse, and now the printer are all wireless. Talk about feeling old. :-)

.....Not everything was so easily salvageable though. My old iPod brick would not talk coherently to the computer. It is only six years old. But it had my entire library on it. That was almost 7,000 songs. I was bummed severely. I will either have to download my old CD collection to the new computer, or just plan on buying that music I really want. Thankfull, I had downloaded almost two hundred songs to the iPod Touch. So I have a good start on my favorite stuff. I'll see if there is something else I can try. Maybe I can dig up my old software CD and see about reloading the old stuff on to the new computer and see if I can get the brick to talk to something long enough to get the music either on to the computer, or on to the iPod Touch.

.....Now it's really late and I did not get half of all the stuff on my weekend list done. It's going to be a busy week, especially with all the catching up I have to do.

.....It's hard to believe that it is already May 1st. It seems like yesterday that it was January!

.....Actually, yesterday was the Arts and Sciences Day Camp at the Odd Fellows Hall in West Bremerton. It was actually a pretty good day of geeking out with others and learning new things. As well as seeing what others were doing. I brought a bin full of things to do. And actually ended up working on a few things, which was rather cool.

.....Saw Deirdre in the morning and was reminded of the bookcases that are currently located at her house. They are the folding rattan Baronial Library bookcases originally donated by THL Inga. They are still usable, but no one seems to want them. And Deridre is rightfully wanting them gone from her place. I need to remember to stop by her house in the next day or so and pick them up. Someone suggested that the Roving Irishmen could use them in setting up their household encampment. I'll ask them if they want them this Tuesday and then confer with Master Ralg and THL Oliver to make sure they are O.K. with them going away.

.....Had a good look at THL Pernell's silk painted banner. She did a good job with it! Her proposed device was nicely rendered on her triangle of silk. She also took some time and patience in painting hers. The colors were all nice and even, as well as vibrant. I made a handful of mistakes on mine, namely not painting the largest color areas in one setting. The areas that I did over time are pretty clearly visible. But it'll work and I'm excited to see it done. Seeing Pernell's definitely was another push into getting my next one done.

.....When things settled down in the afternoon I pulled out my loom and did some cardweaving. THL Madrun watched my method for a few minutes and made a couple of timely suggestions on how to improve the tension on my band by keep a loop of weft available as I turned the card, and then then work on a more even tension as I finished pulled the thread through. It was a very simple trick, but netted immediate results. I could see improvements right away.

.....I hadn't really enjoyed the silk-wool blend when I first pulled everything together on this loom. But things really were moving easily and fast yesterday and I was making quick progress. It was rather enjoyable. I wasn't in love with the color combination of white, black and blue. But I was inspired to hurry up and finish this band so I could warp up a new one. As a matter of fact I was so entranced that I finished the whole thing earlier today. I'll have to figure out a new pattern quickly so I don't lose momentum.

.....Madrun promised a lesson or two when things slow down. I can figure out regular patterns. But I'd love to be able to draft original patterns, or weave them on the fly. I'm just not savvy enough to do that yet (if ever). But we'll have to wait at least until after June Faire before that happens. :-)

.....Spent a little quality time with Aelianora. Not nearly enough, but I don't think I'll ever be able to remedy that one. :-) As usual I'm in awe of all the things she is managing to accomplish these days. Not the least of which is keep Ian employed and focused on the web-site in a manageable capacity. IMPRESSIVE! TBT and I want to meet with Aelianora at some point over the next month to talk about the web-site. TBT had been doing some preliminary work on it before Aelianora took the reins, and has a few ideas she'd like to float. Plus, it is always fun to site and chat. And if Renart does some cooking as well? Bonus! :-)

.....We slept in a little later this morning than we had wanted to. We didn't hit Starbucks until after 10AM. But we did something radical after that. We went to Office Depot and picked up a new computer!

.....OMG! I haven't had a new computer since I moved into this house in 2000. I hadn't realized until today that the computer I have has been doing all my work for me for almost eleven years! I'm sure that is almost ninety in computer progress years (sort of like seventy-seven in dog years :-)). I'm sure I'll feel almost agoraphobic the first time I really start playing on it. Holy Cow! I'll be able to open up the Internet and will be type URL's almost immediately! No more running into other rooms to get chores done while I wait for the Internet to queue up. I don't know how I'll be able to handle it! :-)

.....Ran into Cedric and Brighid today. Then JR, and Tymothy and a bunch of others. Some good conversation was had. But TBT and I had to get the weekly shopping done, so we didn't get to stick around and talk for too long unfortunately. But we did get to congratulate Talon for successfully completing his fourth marathon! That is IMPRESSIVE!

.....Will start making inroads on the May Crown and June Faire 'Action Item' lists this week. Things will move relatively quickly.

.....Have to hit up a few people on Tuesday at Fight Practice for help at May Crown, June Faire and July Coronation. Wednesday is the June Faire Board Meeting. Then Thursday is the May Business Meeting. Another full week.

.....I would have liked to have gone to Druim Doineann's May Pole this Saturday, but have another requirement in the hopper. And considering that every other weekend this month is booked with SCA Activities, I need to keep this weekend open for personal 'go-dos' or else I'll be running to catch up until sometime in late June. Not a good thing.

.....Hmmm, starting to get late. Must get ready to go to work tomorrow.

.....Aaron / Arontius.

.....The weekend went by so fast. Wish I had another day or two to get caught up with a few things.

.....Spent most of the morning on Saturday wrestling with the computer and the iPod. They didn't seem to want to talk to each other and the desktop was being more frisky than usual. Finally kicked itself into CHKDSK mode and spent the rest of the day reading all the hard drives. But when I finally checked in again later in the evening, it seemed to have cleared itself up and it even obliged in a conversation with the iPod. Oh, well, as long as it was only temperamental and not dead. I should be happy.

.....Went with TBT and some others to see 'True Grit'. I'm a heavy John Wayne fan, so I was really not sure about this movie. But enjoyed it far more than I anticipated. The story itself was engaging. Loved the characterizations. The language was way cool too. Definitely worth a second look. And, really, it was so much different than the John Wayne version that I could easily, in my mind, separate the two into totally separate genres.

.....Went out to do some shopping at JoAnn's and then stopped for dinner at Taco Bell. Bad Move! Had their taco salad and nachos. The shell was oily and tasted outdated. The 'cheese' sauce totally came out of 7-11's second hand bin. Went away feeling slightly 'off' and that feeling didn't really leave until Sunday afternoon.

.....Woke up for the usual Starbucks run on Sunday, with just enough time to spare to get a handful of chores done before running off to the Manchester Fuel Depot for the Sunday Fight Practice.

.....What a turnout! By time all was said and done there were at least five heavy fighters and maybe eight or ten rapier fighters. A large group of people were watching as well with handwork to do. A good turn out. Pernell even showed up with work to do on one of the shop lathes. Go Pernell! :-)

.....Lots of excitement generated though. The Blatha An Oir Rapier Marshall went home and immediately posted about the huge hall available for practice and urged people to carpool to the next one in February. Jahnkin may end up having more people at his Sunday Fight Practice in February than normally show up for work on a daily basis! I doubt he is worried though. :-)

.....Spent a lot of time watching the heavy fighters. Must remember to acknowledge the rapier fighters as well next time.

.....Busy week in the offering. Tuesday night starts TBT's 'Rectangular Construction Class'. We had originally scheduled a Serjeantry discussion for that Fight Practice, but we're going to push out the timetable for that to happen. Originally we were going to take letters of intent at Candlemas. There are still a handful of things to work out, and we decided to not rush things. So we're going to have a discussion at Candlemas, with letters of intent to be accepted at June Faire. I hadn't wanted to wait that long. But there has been so much to do that things haven't been as organized as they could have been.

.....Ursulmas next Saturday. Must remember to pick up mats from Lobelia so I can pass them to Cedric and Brighid on Tuesday. They plan on being on site on Friday and will lay out the mats on some good territory for Dragon's Laire. The mats are rather large, so we should get enough space for everyone to gather for the day. Plus, having the mats on the ground will make it nice for others to bring carpets to lay on top.

.....The day will be long, but enjoyable I'm sure. Not sure how long Court will be though, and should probably be prepared with something to do.

.....I think there is at least one other meeting this week. Must consult the calendar before bed. We've been doing relatively well on the quest to meet with the various sub-groups of the Barony. Don't want to miss any one by accident. If people think something is worth getting organized to do than it is important for us to recognize them for taking that step.

.....Hmmm, I'm sure there is something I'm forgetting too and I can't seem to remember what it is. Need to stop this now and go log on to the calendar. Time for bed anyway.

.....I guess everyone at work figured out 'the way forward' and implemented 'the plan'. I have been told to come back to work tomorrow morning. That was a fast vacation! But the good news is that my leave request was officially denied by management and duly signed. Which means that any left over leave I have on the books after the last pay period of the year will get rolled over into 2011.

.....The Mid Level Boss still thinks that I'll have the week between Christmas and New Years at home. And possibly two or three days next week as well. Once 'the way forward' has paper, support, materials, and people (i.e. the PLAN) there isn't a whole lot for me to do. Especially considering that the Shipyard will be shut down during that period. It kills me though that even though Bangor and Bremerton are considered one command, one is shut down and the other will stay officially open during the Curtailment period. :-)

.....I enjoyed today. Worked through a bunch of e-mail. Cleaned the kitchen. Took several naps. Went out and had lunch with TBT and picked up some sugar free flavorings. I was thinking it was a good preview for the next two weeks. Maybe I should have spent more of that time actually doing things instead. :-)

.....TBT visited the local St. Vincent's as well. I think that if I do get a day or two over the next couple of weeks that I'd like to clear out the Computer Room. The Ingasbo Boxes can go into the closet or downstairs. All the files can find a new home. Then one of several wingback chairs will make it home from St. Vincent's to the Computer Room. Along with a side table and lamp, and maybe a footstool. Then I can have a relaxing reading area. Maybe even work from the chair using a wireless keyboard. In my mind it reminds me of that silly orange lounge chair I used to drag to events with me when I camped with the SLTC. Man, it was comfortable! But the looks I received from people were funny! :-)

.....Still would like to get all of my notes organized. I've been invaded by the Sticky Note Monster and it is an insidious beast! Post-It Notes are supposed to be reminders of things that need to be done. But it is sure hard to get anything actually done when there are reminder notes everywhere! The truly important things get lost in the mess and it is hard to get anything actually started. Let's see what I can do to tame this beast over the next hour or so. But I have started off on the wrong foot anyway by checking into Live Journal first rather than getting started. NOT a good precedent. :-)

.....We did get our first Baronial Report to Crown out the door today though. It is somewhat late, but it was our first one. I'm still a little unsure of its contents. I followed previous reports to a degree from Their Excellencies Cedric and Brighid, but kept finding myself writing it like a Seneschal's Report. :-) Ah, well, if you like to read before bed to help get you to sleep, reading our report might be the best thing aside from a hot toddy!

.....Managed to get more clean up of the desktop computer done as well. The e-mail folders are now clean! I moved, saved, deleted, etc. over 400,000 e-mails. The oldest ones being from 2000. I found myself reading my e-mails to the predecessor Team to Team Haggis as we were gearing up for my first June Faire. I was a much different person in those days. A lot sillier, that's for sure. I'm not sure how I managed to get the Team to actually follow my lead, to be honest, as I couldn't seem to go in one direction for any more than a few moments at a time. I chased chickens everywhere, whether they belonged to me or not! But it was evident that I was having fun, and that's the important thing.

.....After a few weeks of work I finally eliminated enough to actually defragment the computer. It took a while, but things are actually moving a little faster again. Wow! A ten year old computer! Dell used to make some good computers. As is evidenced by this one. I've abused it horribly and it is still chugging along. Amazing!

.....Sigh! Must get some laundry done if I'm going in to work tomorrow. Whine! Whine! Whine!

.....At least it is only a one day work week before the weekend. :-)
