Life in Comparison.

I was feeling pretty frustrated and tired of people in general until I went to LJ and saw that I actually have it pretty good. :-)
I have an e-mail inbox full of e-mails from people who have sent me copy for The Crier that don't bother to read the list of 'Required Items' for copy inside the back cover of The Crier. But, you know, they are pretty polite to me in general when I ask them to update their copy with the proper information. They are not like the peers that have made Anne-Marie's life so miserable of late. But, you know, that may be the answer. The fact that to a person every one of those people who sent me copy were NOT peers of the realm. Makes me wonder if peerages in general just think too damned highly of themselves to be positive contributors to the Society. Hopefully that is the wrong summation on my part. :-) I'm hoping very sincerely that people like Anne-Marie are the rule rather than the exception. :-)
Anne-Marie is a goddess for her patience, that's for sure. I'm not worthy to fall at her feet! :-)
My own web-site for selling my circlets, www.ingasbo.com, is not exactly the classiest in the world. But I have friends who put it together for me for free. So at that price it is wonderful. I have silly questions come my way, but it is a very rare thing for someone to actually be rude to me like that person was to Marquessa Laurellen today.
So, instead of grumbling at the world, I think that I'll open up my new book of Morris Dance and see if I can figure out a few new steps before I go to bed. :-)

Date: 2006-04-20 04:04 am (UTC)its funny. not too long ago a bunch of us old tired peers ;) were trying to figure out why there was so much apathy.
the point was brought up that we might have been doing our kingdom a disservice by constantly stepping in and DOing. that a finer service might be to allow others to DO, and potentially fail.
only by learning, doing and failing are they also given the opportunity to succeed and become the future leaders.
unfortunately they seem to have forgotten how to read ;).
and meanwhile, some peers have forgotten what it is to serve. the loudest squawkers and most frenetic handwavers have been suspiciously absent from th elist of DOers for a really long time....
*sigh*

Date: 2006-04-20 04:15 am (UTC)Do you think that the apathy is due, in part, to the hard times experienced awhile back? Or is it a chronological malaise? I've noticed that there are certain age brackets where there are lots and lots of doers. And some where nobody does anything.

Date: 2006-04-20 05:04 am (UTC)I know the icky times certainly helped chronic do-ers get a bit more perspective....finding other hobbies and interests for a bit and then realising that really once you step away its easier sometimes to keep stepping and stepping...
there appears to be a fine balanced line between DOing (showing by example) and mentoring. I know I havent figured it out yet :)

PS...Don't let people get you down! :D
